Are you an aviation gamer, student pilot, or instructor curious about My Fly and its capabilities for training?
Check out some of our most frequently asked questions below.
Is My Fly FAA approved for hours towards my pilot's license?
Answer: No. The current state of the application is a supplement material for familiarization. While this is a full-flight simulator, we do not have a letter of authority (LOA) from a regional FSBO for flight school integration or federal recognition. We are working to document Part 141 syllabus integration formally to be recognized as a Basic Aviation Training Device (BATD) from the FAA.
Does My Fly demonstrate real-world, emergency scenarios and checklist procedures?
Answer: Yes! We developed multiple procedures that cover the real checklist sequences for Emergency Landing, Traffic Hazards, Fire & Electrical Survival, as well as the most common Weather Hazards.
Can My Fly actually educate me on how to fly a plane better than current commercial off-the-shelf applications or games available?
Answer: Yes, the instructional system design approach is created as a tell, show, and demonstrate application. The virtual instructor guides the user with on screen text, narration, and 3D highlights over the subject discussed.
The aircraft familiarization is robust in educational materials covering the introduction to the aircraft specifications and limitations to understanding the real world Normal and Emergency procedure checklists, directly out of the Pilots Operating Handbook (POH).
With a price point of $30 USD, it is the only gamified civilian training application on the market for the cost.
Is there a procedure that explains the electrical system and malfunctions?
Answer: Yes, the Electrical Survival scenario demonstrates the procedure for resetting power while in flight (during an electrical fire), how to troubleshoot avionics malfunctions and resetting a popped breaker, as well as the indications for alternator overcharging and undercharging and how to resolve them.
Are physical flight controls supported?
Answer: Yes, the Logitech G (Saitek) Flight Simulator Yoke, Throttle, and Rudder Pedal physical hardware controls are now supported for My Fly version 2.3.2.1. This is best accessible within the Freeplay Flight mode. Yoke controls for left/right/up/down as well as flaps up/down on B1/B2 yoke buttons, rudder left/right, and throttle 1/2/3 0-1 have been mapped to each of the control surface inputs and engine inputs on the control column for real-time feedback.
Are there ATC radio calls in the procedures?
Answer: Yes, players are instructed to call ATC during the procedures for Flight School & specific Scenarios at instructed points of interaction. These calls include the correct phraseology and a few variations on the read back.
What aircraft options are there or is it aircraft specific?
Answer: My Fly only supports a fixed wing, single propellor aircraft.
Is it possible to set a piece of equipment as inoperable as an instructor for student testing?
Answer: There is not a testing mode for inoperable gauges released in the Steam version of the application. The Time On Task procedures test the users retention of the Preflight and Engine Start checklists. The Fire & Electrical Survival as well as the Weather Hazards scenarios demonstrate the procedures for inoperable gauges. Reach out to us directly and we can publish a test procedure for your training needs.
Do I need a gaming PC or high end PC to run this application?
Answer: No. The application is designed to run on a low end machine. The current specifics require a minimum of: 64-bit processor and operating system
Operating System: Windows 10
Processor: Intel i7
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 480
